[Naver] GFriend, The First Ever K-Pop Girl Group To Win 'MTV EMA 2017' Chosen as Korea's Representative

Girl group GFriend was chosen to represent Korea at Europe's biggest music award 'MTV Europe Music Award 2017.

This last November 13, GFriend was crowned 2017 MTV EMA's Best Korean Act.

Having represented Korean in such award show, GFriend showed their power as a K-pop girl group having won the 'Best Korean Act' award.

Since the awards show's establishment on the year 2013, boy groups EXO (2013), BAP (2014 & 2016) and BTS (2015) were the former winners of the Best Korean Act award. On top of that, GFriend is the very first Korean girl group to win the award, gave this win a huge difference.

On the past two years, GFriend has already been nominated. This year GFriend was nominated along with huge names such as Highlight, Mamamoo, Seventeen and Wanna One.

MTV Europe Music Awards is the most popular song and music video awards show in Europe. Since its launch in the year 1994, the MTV Europe Music Awards has gained popularity throughout Europe and has been loved for 24 years as an international music festival. Beyonce, Justin Bieber, and Taylor Swift are some of the most prestigious award-winning celebrities to date.

This year, it was held at SSE Arena in Wembley, London, UK on November 12 (local time).

GFriend who debuted in 2015 started with their debut song 'Glass Bead' followed by 'Me Gustas Tu'. On their second year they released 'Rough' and 'Navillera' and on their third year released 'Fingertip', 'Love Whisper' and 'Summer Rain' as their title songs which swept the music charts and regarded as nation's girl group.

With their innocent visuals combined with powerful knife-like dance performances GFriend gave birth to 'Power-Innocent' concept gave the existing girl group innocent concept a difference and firmly established their name as a group.
