While I was browsing through my Twitter account I noticed someone sent me a link via direct message. It is about how OSEN (a Korean news company) made an interesting take on the similarities between BTS and GFriend.
I checked the date when it was sent and it was from freaking year 2016! I'm completely apologetic to the sender that I didn't make a translation for this pretty article so as a token of gratitude I'm making one.
I will not make a full translation but provide the important details only and then focusing on translating the comments from the Korean netizens.
These two has been popularly compared by their fans due to their uncanny resemblance. Let's see what OSEN has provided as proof of them being called "twins".

BTS and GFriend both came from rather small companies. BTS is a boy group of Big Hit Entertainment while GFriend is a girl group of Source Music Entertainment.
BTS has been quoted to be a boy group born with dirty spoon rather than from a gold spoon (T/N: the gold spoon works in the same way as the idiom "born with silver spoon in his mouth") and they have to work their way up for 695 days before they get their very first win in a music show after releasing 'I NEED U'.
GFriend is the representative group of their company. GFriend was popularly known for creating an entirely new concept called "power-innocent" due to their innocent image yet powerfully executed choreography. They were also known for their "chart reversal" phenomenon - a song that was supposed to drop down from the chart but ending up going up as it gain momentum - which led Me Gustas Tu being known for it's "long-run" in the charts. Then they got 15 wins in just one song with their title track 'Rough'.
◆ Both swept the Rookie of the Year awards making their beginnings different among others
Both of them got Rookie of the Year despite their humble beginnings.
BTS swept new comer awards from various awards shows - Melon Music Awards, Seoul Music Awards and Gaon Chart Music Awards, after achieving over 100,000 (one hundred thousand) album sales from their 2nd Album 'Skool Luv Affair' . An amazing feat from a group from a small company.
GFriend also had their share of the limelight by winning the Rookie of the Year from 2015 Melon Music Awards, Seoul Music Award, Golden Disc Award and Gaon Chart Music Awards crowning them as 2015's representative Rookie Girl Group of the Year.
◆ Both are popular for pulling off their own School Trilogy Concept
BTS jump-started their rise to popularity releasing various songs that trigger the fantasies of many young women. Debuting with 'No More Dream' taking the image of school delinquents, popularizing the catch phrase "I want to be your oppa", a line from 'BOY IN LUV' and making girls swoon by ending the trilogy with "Just One Day".
GFriend did their own version of School Trilogy incorporating their trademark 'power-innocent' school girl concept. Starting with debut song 'Glass Bead' being followed by 'Me Gustas Tu' and completing the sets with award winning song 'Rough' which etched themselves deeply in the K-pop world.

From what I know GFriend has a different choreographer from BTS which is Mr. Son Sungdeuk.

Additionally it is a very well known fact that both their companies Big Hit Entertainment and Source Music Entertainment collaborated to create a girl group with name GLAM. But not everyone knows that they also collaborated for creating another group 8eight and a solo artist Lee Hyun.
There are also instances that Big Hit CEO Bang PD and BTS choreographer Son Sungdeuk promoting GFriend in their own SNS. A good example of that is Bang PD retweeting posts from GFriend's official Twitter account. Son Sungdeuk is also known for making the choreography of Glass Bead and Love Whisper.
One last proof of their twin like story is their CEOs - Bang PD and So Sung Jin - are very close friends as they were filmed drinking beer and playing together.
